An exhibition on the work of Swedish artist Mamma Andersson was one of the highlights of our recent visit to the Louisiana Museum. Her style spoke strongly to both me and E. We brought an A0 sized poster of the painting shown below back home:
Dagen Efter / The Day After (2020) by Mamma Andersson
What to me was an interesting parallel, despite the huge differences in subjects, medium and expression, with the work of Arthur Jafa we saw at Louisiana as well, is how Andersson finds her inspiration.
She collects, as does Jafa, large amounts of images, including from old(er) books, and surrounds herself with them. Transforms them into black and white images before creating paintings intuitively from them.

It was a pretty regular working week, with a burst of great late summer weather, allowing us to spend time in the garden. It was very clear people have returned to work after the summer and are doing with renewed energy. A very different tone and pace than before the summer holidays.
This week I
Spent most of my time on my work w.r.t. the EU data and digital strategies
Had a conversation about potentially taking on a role as treasurer of the Dutch Mensa entrepreneurs association
Discussed my contribution to a data conference organised by the ministry for infrastructure and water management next month
Had a conversation with the Province of Limburg as part of a market consultation for their data and infomration management
Did the monthly invoicing
Finished removing all Amazon links from this blog, as well as all YouTube and Vimeo embeds. Still working on changing Flickr embeds to locally hosted images.
Visited a frame maker with E to get five things framed. Two posters we bought at the Louisiana Museum this summer. A print of Hockney’s Arrival of Spring from the Royal Arts Academy which was my globetrotting birthday present for E, and two large Magnum photo prints by Elliot Erwitt framed. We saw an Erwitt exhibition in Lucca in 2015, and I kept an eye on prints sold through Magnum since, until they became available earlier this year. Should be ready in a week.
Packed up the car with camping gear for the annual get-together of E’s mother’s extended family this weekend. It was good to see everyone again.
A pretty regular week, with nice weather during the weekend.
This week I
Started preparing for a training on the use of data w.r.t. corruption and integrity, which I will provide in two weeks time for an international group of government officials and NGO employees from around the world
Prepared two presentations on the European legal framework for data
Had the weekly client meetings
Got about half way with replacing Flickr embeds (half way in terms of postings, not images)
Sat in on an interesting presentation on energy transition by Arash Aazami, which I need to look for online and rewatch
Started ordening and reading the EU Green Deal legal package, to find the connections with the EU legal framework for data.
Met with Y’s teacher face to face for a conversation about how Y is doing
Couldn’t make our monthly all hands meeting, this time actually face to face in Amsterdam, but did join the group for the end of the afternoon and a shared Indian dinner.
Gave the two presentations I prepared earlier in the week
Took care of Y for a full day, as she had two days of while her teacher was going on a training
Removed my LinkedIn timeline
Decided on a date for a next Dutch Obsidian users meet-up, on October 9th
Went to the frame maker with E and Y to pick up two framed photos by Elliott Erwitt, two large posters we bought at the Louisiana museum in the summer, and the especially beuatifully framed Hockney print by the RA for E’s birthday.
Gave all the newly framed artwork a place in our home.
As the weather was very nice today, I spent time in the garden doing some pruning.
Picasso’s mother and child, poster of the Louisiana exhibition Mor! The other Louisiana poster we got framed was an A0 sized poster of ‘Dagen Efter’ by Mamma Andersson
