“Software as a hostage” is a good way to formulate what is wrong with SaaS as part of the tethered economy.

Our CEO just referred to SaaS as “Software as a hostage” and I think that’s pretty spot on.

Which EU27 based CKAN SaaS providers do you know of? (I’m aware of e.g. dataplatform.nl and Opendatasoft) #opendata #OpenGov

About

Blog Interdependent Thoughts maintained since 2002 by Ton Zijlstra.
European citizen in a networked world. Based in the Netherlands, living in Europe, working globally. There are no Others. There is just me and many of you.

I write about how our digital and networked world changes how we work, learn, decide and organize. I explore the tools and strategies that help us navigate the networked world. I am passionate about increasing people's ability to act (knowledge), and their ability to change (learning). Key-words: open data, open government, fablabs, making, complexity, networked agency, networked learning, ethics by design.

    • Google Says Ethics Is For Ethicists an intruiging tell wrt Google's approach to ethics, in this Google statement. "He is a software engineer, not an ethicist". In other words, the engineer should not worry about ethics, they've got ethicists on the payroll for that. Worrying about ethics is not the engineer's job. That perception means you yourself can stop thinking about ethics, it’s been allocated, and you can just take its results and run with it..... the ethics bluewashing dark pattern at work.

    • First Steps with the Nova2 Last week I treated myself with an Boox Nova2 e-ink Android tablet, after reading about it in Robert Lender’s blog. (Meanwhile he has blogged his first impressions and experiences, in German) For most of the week the device sat on my desk, as I didn’t have time yet to take a proper look. Today I […]

    • Digital Leadership, Wirearchy and Neo Generalists While we were with friends on one side of the Atlantic, other friends such as Jon Husband and Lee Bryant met under the Lisbon son at SocialNow, brought there by Ana Neves, to discuss digital leadership. I need to find out if some of the talks were recorded and got posted already. Here’s a brief […]

    • TRIZ Through Elearningpost.com I read this article in Business 2.0 on a method called TRIZ. This method, developed by the Russian Genrich Altshuller (1926-1998), provides a framework to focus innovation efforts in technological settings. It seems to have been embraced by engineers because it treats creativity as a discipline to be mastered, not as right-brain hocus-pocus. […]
