City of Last Chances by Adrian Tchaikovsky

Posted on 23 September, 2023
by Ton Zijlstra

A city, riddled with old magic and old deities, is occupied by a people saying they’re seeking perfection. The resistance is as much a reflection and continuation of pre-existing powerplays as it is aimed against the occupier. When will be the day to rise? Another great world building story by Tchaikovsky.

About

Blog Interdependent Thoughts maintained since 2002 by Ton Zijlstra.
European citizen in a networked world. Based in the Netherlands, living in Europe, working globally. There are no Others. There is just me and many of you.

I write about how our digital and networked world changes how we work, learn, decide and organize. I explore the tools and strategies that help us navigate the networked world. I am passionate about increasing people's ability to act (knowledge), and their ability to change (learning). Key-words: open data, open government, fablabs, making, complexity, networked agency, networked learning, ethics by design.

    • On the need for distributedness and self-reliance I came across this Guardian article describing how an American author and artist found his Google account deleted, including his 14 year old blog hosted with Google’s Blogger platform. To me this incident is notable in a few ways. The author concerned had his blog up for 14 years, and even used it to write […]

As ever when you arrive in a new city the week started with finding our bearings. Setting up camp An early breakfast run on Monday morning to a […]

    • Announcing Open Data Event, Enschede (NL) Together with several civil servants of my home city we’ve been busy getting open government data on the agenda locally. We did a session during last month’s Open Innovation Festival, and are now trying to move it forward with a few other people we met up with because of that. In September or October this […]

    • Announcing BlogWalk Seattle Ok, one more posting before going off-line 🙂 It is our (Lilia’s, Sebastian’s and mine) pleasure to announce another BlogWalk in North-America: Seattle. Local hosts will be Nancy White, whom I had the great pleasure to meet in Amsterdam last year, and Lilia Efimova herself. As always this BlogWalk is by invitation only, but it […]
