In the train I use my own wifi access point, and from its name no conclusion can be drawn as to its source.
Others aren’t as careful. One of the other phone based networks was the one below.

It is apparently a work provided phone, and the network name discloses the recognisable abbreviation of the company name, and the first name and first 5 characters of the last name, in the form “[company name] iphone of [first name] [part of last name]”. A quick look on LinkedIn reveals a photo of the person involved and I spot her a few chairs away.

Now it’s not seldom that people are careless with the names of their wifi networks, but in this case it is the employer that exposes this information through a business phone, and I doubt the person in question is able to change the settings. That makes it a leak of personal data, mandated by the employer.

I sent her a message on LinkedIn to suggest she talk to her employer about changing the settings on her phone, in line with GDPR requirements, and sent a Tweet to her employer. Let’s see what the response is.
