About

Blog Interdependent Thoughts maintained since 2002 by Ton Zijlstra.
European citizen in a networked world. Based in the Netherlands, living in Europe, working globally. There are no Others. There is just me and many of you.

I write about how our digital and networked world changes how we work, learn, decide and organize. I explore the tools and strategies that help us navigate the networked world. I am passionate about increasing people's ability to act (knowledge), and their ability to change (learning). Key-words: open data, open government, fablabs, making, complexity, networked agency, networked learning, ethics by design.

    • Data Mesh Building Block For EU Dataspace Looking forward to reading Data Mesh by Zhamak Dehghani. I think this is a key concept for the creation of the EU dataspace(s), where combining and working with data is envisioned as not requiring centralising that data, nor even having a copy of the data for your application.

    • Why Is Mastodon Worried About Needing Upload Filters? The Mastodon community worries about whether the new EU copyright directive (which won’t enter into force for 2 years) will mean upload filters being necessary for the use of the ActivityPub protocol. I can’t logically see why that would be, but only because I don’t compare Mastodon to e.g. Twitter or Facebook. Yet if you […]

    • Server Slow To those of you who experienced extreme slowness of my server or even unavailability, my apologies. Today a prolonged spam attack originating from China overloaded my system with massive numbers of trackback pings. I have now cleaned hundreds and hundreds of trackback spam and business has returned to normal it seems after updating my ban-list.
