A full week with lots of different things, but also a relatively normal week after several weeks of travel.
This week I
- Did some invoicing
- Did some work with colleague F on the interprovincial ethics committee
- Took a nap when I got stuck one afternoon
- Did some Q2 planning for the company, and wrote out actions for some of my business partners
- Had a board meeting of Defend Democracy, and went through their draft 2024 financial report in preparation.
- Prepared and then did, with colleague J, a session of the steering committee for the guide we’re writing on the Data Governance Act’s chapter 2 on the re-use of protected categories of government data.
- Had the weekly client meetings
- Had a preparatory session with a client about a workshop mid April
- Made slides for a webinar on the EU legal framework for data and everything digital and the connection to social innovation. The webinar is next week.
- Booked lodgings in Brussels, as I will be visiting next week.
- Drafted an agenda for a meeting with the JRC next week, in Brussel
- Participated and presented in a session by the Center of Excellence for data spaces and cloud in the Netherlands, which took place in Utrecht.
- Discussed within the Open Netherlands board an idea for a session around the role of Internet Archive as a data source.
- Wrote a posting about digital autonomy and how to make it tangible enough to discuss (in Dutch) at board level in government organisations. This after last week learning about the steps a large government entity had taken to start such a discussion internally. An example I wanted to highlight.
- Caught up with an old Danish connection JF. We hadn’t talked in years. An hour was too short, a next conversation is in the works.
- Discussed a potential new hire.
- Participated in a half day meeting of the intergovernmental data strategy network around EU data policies.
- Afterwards spent the rest of the day at our offices, catching up with colleagues G. and F., discussing with our office manager G how to keep my calendar shaped in a way that allows me enough focus time and less meetings.
- Had a conversation with colleague J. to discuss their first 5 months in the company, and agreeing to a permanent contract.
- Had a meeting with my businesspartners which left me tired and emotionally drained.
- Caught up with Open State Foundation’s director to discuss current work and perspectives (I’m their chairman).
- Took Y to her singing group.
- Pulled together all the documentation of the last 12 months on a grant we received as the board of the ActivityClub foundation, and wrote a contract for the parties that will do the work tied to the grant. Discussed it within the board.
- Had to get out the house for a bit, and took a train to Utrecht one afternoon to stroll around town and browse some bookshops by myself. Also visited a small exhibition of ceramics by 6 graduating students of the Utrecht arts academy.
- Went out for dinner with the three of us.
- With E went to a local garden center to stock up on new plants for our rooftop terrace.
