A varied week, not overly busy, and felt pretty much ok. It’s also nice that at the end of January we’re getting a bit more daylight when cycling Y to school in the morning.
This week I:
- Prepared and chaired a meeting of the interprovincial ethics committee. We talked about the governance structures around ethics work, digital twins, technology sovereignty for public sector bodies, and calculation models, as well as an upcoming contribution to the permanent digitisation committee of the Dutch Senate.
- Had the weekly client meetings
- Worked on the guide for the Data Governance Act chapter on re-use of protected data categories with colleague J. We see some, we think, misinterpretations w.r.t. scope.
- Had some 1 on 1 conversations with civil servants who will take part in a wider circle of co-authors for this guide.
- Wrote a program outline for a visit to the EC in Brussels. This is part of an upcoming study trip of 30 or so director level people in the geo-information domain. Discussed it with the organising committee.
- Took part in the digital ethics working group of the provinces.
- Did the 4th quarter book keeping for the 6 entities I’m involved in (my business, my holding, my sole trader business, E’s, a foundation and an association.) and did the VAT returns for them.
- Had a meeting with the board of the Brussels based but Dutch registered Defend Democracy foundation, and later in the week agreed to join them as treasurer.
- Brought my colleague J to a client to introduce them and let them get an impression of the work we do there.
- Went to our office, for my annual personal development review conversation, with colleagues F and P. Some good new insights and new ways of addressing aspects of my burn-out recovery.
- Discussed our collective bonus system for the new year. With a growing team our current structure means a reduction of the average pay-out per team member, and we’re looking at ways to let it scale with the number of people better. It means paying out a bigger portion of budgeted profits.
- Had a conversation with Y’s teacher to discuss her progress, and how to keep her engaged.
- Hung out with Y an afternoon, and went out for fish for lunch with her on Saturday, Y on her skates.
- Made steps to de-Amazon my e-reading. Made all my Amazon e-books available and accessible outside of my Kindle. The step of purchasing elsewhere is next.
- Finished reading Orbital by Samantha Harvey and Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer. Started reading Quantum Radio by A.G. Riddle.
- Enjoyed that this week had multiple sunny days, even if I didn’t get out much.
