Our first week off. We drove to a campground near Losheim am See in Saarland on Monday, stopping for lunch in Blankenheim in the Eiffel area. Saarland is in the 3 country border area of France, Germany and Luxembourg.
From there we visited Trier, with its Roman era gate Porta Nigra, hiked through the woods, explored the reconstructed Roman agricultural villa, Villa Borg, built on top of the excavated fundaments, made marshmallows over a campfire, took a dip in a reservoir lake (the lake meant in the place name Losheim am See) and packed up before heavy thunderstorms were predicted to hit the area (but in the end didn’t really). We then relocated to near the city of Luxembourg, at a hotel we enjoyed staying in several times before. From there we visited Castle Vianden today. We plan to visit the French city Metz tomorrow before returning home.

It was good to be away from work, although relocating to campground and then to a hotel means rhythm switching that I didn’t find all that easy.
