Owncube is a cloud hosting service I started using in 2014, when E and I took additional steps to maintain our own data and servers. Today I received word they are closing up shop.
Sometime in 2022 I stopped recommending them, mostly because of their abrasive communication style around issues and tickets. I had also migrated all of my services and that of my company away from them except for one for my company, that then stopped functioning by itself sometime last year, and in my interaction with their ticket desk it never got resolved.
So the news doesn’t come entirely as a surprise.
Yet we do need to scramble a bit, as E still has one or two services running with them, especially some storage. They announced they will pull the plug on everything by 17 February. So that’s our deadline to figure out what needs to be done and have done it.
