I enjoyed this week, in which E and I also had some time to ourselves as Y was on a sleepover for 2 nights.
This week I
- Welcomed a new member to our team, doing the various things that onboarding starts with like setting up accounts, handing out a laptop and national public transport card, and having the first conversations about the content of work
- Had the monthly conversation where I talk the team through the core financials of the company. Also discussed a new salary structure to put in place, now that we for the first time hired someone for whom it isn’t their first job.
- Took some time to plan ahead for the coming weeks
- Had the weekly client meetings
- Participated in a European workshop about the themes to be selected for a second round of manadatory high value open data. I previously researched the data to be included in the first round, for the themes earth observation, environment and meteorology, which should finally be published as law this summer.
- Had a look at what follow-ups to organise after a series of conversations with the European Commission’s research directorate, JRC
- Read the year report of the NGO I chair, which will be published after board approval
- Bought tickets four our team for the May Contain Hackers 2022 conference, where we are co-hosting a data ethics village this summer.
- Wrote and added a bunch of material on dataspaces to a client wiki on European data legislation.
- Enjoyed beers with E in a newly opened local pub on Thursday, and on Friday a cool exhibition in the local Kade museum followed by wine and Italian food al fresco in the Amersfoort city center. This was possible because Y was on a sleepover for two nights.
- Arranged what Y had planned for Mother’s day. As she was away on a sleepover, the ingredients for breakfast and flowers she left for me to get. This morning she directed me through the steps of her plan.
Enjoying the city this week, and seeing how beautiful it is, once more made me realise how glad I am we moved here five years ago.

Where Havik and Langegracht meet. I always prefer to walk into the center from this direction.
