About

Blog Interdependent Thoughts maintained since 2002 by Ton Zijlstra.
European citizen in a networked world. Based in the Netherlands, living in Europe, working globally. There are no Others. There is just me and many of you.

I write about how our digital and networked world changes how we work, learn, decide and organize. I explore the tools and strategies that help us navigate the networked world. I am passionate about increasing people's ability to act (knowledge), and their ability to change (learning). Key-words: open data, open government, fablabs, making, complexity, networked agency, networked learning, ethics by design.

    • At The First End of the Pandemic When exactly three months ago, on March 10th, the national advice became to stop shaking hands to reduce the spread of the Corona virus, I created a spreadsheet to track the numbers for myself. By the 13th we were advised to stay home from work, and by the 15th everything got shut down. When I […]

    • GovCamp NL: Impressions and Take Aways Last weekend saw a BarCamp in Amsterdam around government and the impact of web2.0. GovCamp NL was inspired by the GovCamp in London last year. Thanks to James Burke and Peter Robinett about 25 people, with about a third government workers, found themselves in the former offices of de Volkskrant. Chris and Peter working the […]

    • Reboot 9: Owning Your Own Learning Path Transcripts On day 2 of the Reboot conference Elmine Wijnia and I hosted a conversation session around the topic ‘Owning Your Own Learning Path’. We graciously got two timeslots for this, and we enjoyed the beautiful weather in Copenhagen by doing the session outside on the grass in front of Kedelhallen. We introduced the session on […]

    • Reboot 8 Themes III: Good Enough This is a multi-part story about the themes I picked up at the Reboot 8 conference in Copenhagen, June 1st and 2nd. Good Enough Jacob Boetter brought this to daylight for me over dinner on Saturday. All of these new web apps are built to be good enough. Not perfect. I always accepted the fact […]
    • Reboot 8 Themes II: Diversity This is a multi-part story about the themes I picked up at the Reboot 8 conference in Copenhagen, June 1st and 2nd. Diversity A theme I brought to Reboot myself with Lee Bryant and Martin Roell. But it surfaced in a number of other ways for me as well. First and foremost that you have […]
    • Reboot 8 Themes I: Renaissance It’s been a week since Reboot 8 in Copenhagen, and my head is still spinning from it. Last weekend already I poured most of the snippets of thoughts into a mindmap in order not to forget stuff and create space for even more memories, ideas and thoughts. I have been building on the mindmap in […]

    • More info on Reboot? You can find out more about what is happening at reboot at this moment: Technorati tag reboot7 And also the wiki at the reboot site is used for realtime reporting. Up on irc.freenode.net on #reboot7 there is a running commentary from those in the room. (And Robert Scoble is showing it live during his talk […]
    • Doc Searls What is the business model behind blogging? It is better to see it as a useful expense. reboot7
    • Reboot 7 Currently listening to Thomas Madsen-Mygdal opening the Reboot 7 conference. Lots of familiar and new people here in Copenhagen. Looking forward to two days full of inspiring conversations on new models for organisation, networks etc. More to come during the event. (the picture is from the metro this morning. • Conducting a knowledge transfer In the past days I have been away, and had a great time in Liechtenstein. It was only a couple of days, but packed with new impressions, meeting old friends, enjoying music, being re-hypnotised by the immense beauty of alpine nature during a 5hr mountain hike, and enjoying the company of a full symphonic orchestra […]
