Another thing to look at when RSS fails is unencoded invisible characters that ride along when you paste text into the body of a blog post from elsewhere. I fell victim to this last week, the most obvious side-effect of which was the RSS-dependent blog-to-email service from MailChimp stopped working.
After 14 years of blogging connection I only recently thought to whitelist you for commenting on this site so your comments show up immediately. Yet I find, it messes with my flow, as for the moderation queue I get an alert. But now I only see your comment because I happened to revisit this post. So oddly enough whitelisting you means it is now less likely I see your comments. Something to figure out how to deal with.
