Polders are reclaimed lands from the sea. This is a shot from the Noordoost-polder. On the dikes (bottom left) you see the wind turbines. Farms are neatly and regularly clustered in two's and fours along straight lines, with their land directly attaching. No emerging street and road patterns here, but the exact grid as it was created on the drawing board. Much like the street grids in North American cities. Grids, a sign of lack of history?

Decision to create this polder was made in 1918 as part of the Zuiderzee works. Dikes were built starting in 1936, and it fell dry in 1942. Land issueing to farmers started in 1947.
