This vessel, the Sandrien, is detained in the Amsterdam Harbour since 2000. It is a 1974-built chemical tanker, containing a lot of hazardous materials, such as PCB's and asbestos. She was suspected to set sail for the beach of Alang, India. Hundreds of old, end-of-life vessels are dismantled here in a way that causes much harm for either the environment as well as the shipbreakers. Therefore she was detained by the dutch ministry of VROM. Spring 2005 the demolishion of the Sandrien commenced, with unloading the remaining cargo (molasses) and removing the hazardous materials. Today, half the Sandrien is dismantled. The remaining half is stil moored, and it seems that the demolishion is paused for a (long) while for some reason (rumours sound the shipbreakers are out of money). Eitherway a nice photograph, with kind of unique view on a ship (you don't see many half-demolished ships in Amsterdam!). With kind regards,

Isn't it that Amsterdam Ship Repair who together with EcoDock has to do the demolishing, doesn't have the right licenses?

Where is the Sandrien exactly located in the harbour of Amsterdam?
